I have written previously about why it is important to only purchase puppies out of breeding parents that are a minimum of 2 years old. Many health problems don't rear their ugly head until this age, and further you cannot know the dog's temperament until it has reached maturity.
I was browsing the internet the other day, and found these shocking online classified ads advertising a stud dog for hire in the UK, Immer Moed Zion, owned and advertised by Zion Boerboels. The puppy in question was only 10 months old when it was bred for the first time. He turned 1 year old on January 31, 2011, and his first litter is due on February 11, 2011. For those not inclined to do the math, the sire of this litter will be exactly 1 year and 10 days old when he becomes a father for the first time.
Since the ads may be taken down soon because of public outcry, I am taking the liberty of posting them here. This is not a libelous action on my part, because I am only publishing what the breeder has already written, cut and pasted from the breeder's website and the Boerboel Club, Active Boerboel Club, that supports the breeder. Needless to say, I would not recommend purchasing a Boerboel puppy from Zion Boerboels owned and operated by Karen Beattie and Adam McKendry. Breeding from an underage dog tells us volumes about the breeder's motives -- cash, cash and more cash. It is sad to see our pets used and abused in this manner:
This ad was posted on http://www.breedersonline.co.uk/, under Boerboel Stud Dogs (sic):
First litter from Immer Moed Zion, underage stud puppy, due February 11, 2011 as advertised on www.dogsandpuppies.co.uk. This exact same ad was also found on www.clickpets.co.uk/pets-dogs-otherbreedsofdogs.
This screenshot is from the breeder's website, Zion Boerboels, advertising "planned" litters. Note that the breeding bitch referenced, Zion Eva, is only about 7 months old at the time this was posted on the breeder's website and won't be 2 years old until 2012. Jumping the gun a bit, wouldn't you say?
The above ADS were taken down by Zion Boerboels BECAUSE there never was a litter. The Bitch in question was having a phantom. Because of pregnancy signs and inconclusive scans we presumed he had caught her so we moved forward to advertise the litter early... As we always do to make sure all our puppies go to the best possible homes. On realising she was not pregnant we removed our Ads... As for advertising out boy at stud we did so in advance but had no intention on breeding him until later. It is our right to forcast services. The image posted here is of the Bitch with her first litter and singleton pup.It is meant to mislead you. The writer of this blog has a personal and unfounded grudge against us. To date our stud dog has sired no litters and our last litters were May 2010 and Sept 2010. To date we have not had any litters in 2011.
ReplyDeleteThe writer of this blog has a grudge against ALL breeders who breed indiscriminately. There are far too many unwanted dogs in shelters and pounds because of over-breeding. Breeding a stud puppy long before it has been able to prove itself is only done for one purpose, and one purpose only -- to make money. There can't be any other reason. What is the hurry to breed young, unproven dogs? Do you think they will drop dead before they hit 2 years of age?
ReplyDeleteThankfully this litter didn't take. The intent to exploit young dogs for profit was still there.
Quote from breeder "To date our stud dog has sired no litters and our last litters were May 2010 and Sept 2010."
ReplyDeleteInteresting, so you didn't know that your stud dog (puppy) was bred in March 2011? See the new photo announcing another upcoming litter above.
I mistakenly stated that the stud dog (puppy) was bred in March 2011, when in fact the litter was due in March 2011. So the stud puppy was bred in January 2011.
ReplyDeleteThe comments from the breeder (clearly seen above from her post) are lies then:
On April 13, 2011, the breeder wrote: "As for advertising out boy at stud we did so in advance but had no intention on breeding him until later."
So if you had no intention on breeding him until later (after April 2011), you failed to mention that you bred him previously (January 2011). Are you just lying to deceive people about your intentions?
On April 13, 2011, the breeder wrote: "To date our stud dog has sired no litters and our last litters were May 2010 and Sept 2010. To date we have not had any litters in 2011."
So you are denying that your stud was bred in January 2011 to Sandaharr Pip? It is plain to see on Odyssey Boerboels' website that your puppy he was bred to Sandaharr Pip in January 2011 with pups due March 2011.
The lies and deception are very, very sad.
And the moral of this story is - "When you're in a big hole, stop digging!"
